Those who clamber up the ziggurat
Bow down to the gods of the dark,
Shout to the shooting stars,
Kneel to the animals of the night.
Lord, protect us from Babel,
From the chaos of babbling jeers,
From the obscenities of the mob,
And the cruel lampooning barks.
When they swarm from the ziggurat,
Buzzing into Babylon, we are victims
Of their incessant noise
Demanding a plague on peace.
Protect us, Lord Jesus, protect us.
Protect us, Christ, from chaos.
