Advent

The Advent windows blow out wide
And the stable walls fall out
For the holy space encompasses
Beyond the chequered world.

Lord, we cannot confine You
In the shells of our careers.
Our walls are tightly nailed,
Packing in our fear.

Lord, in the smallness of our myopia
We can barely reach beyond ourselves,
We are baffled with beginnings,
Fighting in the dark.

We are too small to see
The wonder.
